Top 10 Biggest Sports Card Sales on Pristine LIVE! — May 2026

The oldest card on this month’s Pristine Live! Top 10 list was printed between 1909 and 1911. The newest came out this year.

This contrast is a reflection of how much the hobby of sports card collecting has changed over the last century. After all, early cards like Ty Cobb’s T206 portrait and Babe Ruth’s 1933 Goudey weren’t designed to be collectibles worth tens of thousands of dollars. Their scarcity came about over decades during which cards were lost, damaged, tossed, or disintegrated.

Today’s collectibles live in a very different world than that. Manufacturers build scarcity into their business models, offering limited-numbered parallels, autographs, and one-of-one cards that emerge from the pack already worth a small fortune.

That’s quite the contrast. Yet through the evolution of the hobby, it still amazes me how much has managed to stay the same. More than 100 years after Ruth became baseball's first true superstar, for example, collectors are still captivated by players who seem capable of defining (or redefining) an era.

Ruth dominated as both a pitcher and a hitter before eventually focusing on offense. Shohei Ohtani has taken a different path, continuing to excel on both sides of the game in an era when most experts believed such a feat was no longer possible.

It's no surprise that Ohtani appears four times on this month's list, while Ruth remains firmly among the hobby's most sought-after names.

From century-old tobacco cards to modern one-of-one autographs, May's biggest sales offer a fascinating snapshot of the hobby. The designs may look different, but collectors still chase the same things: rarity, greatness, and a connection to the athletes who define their era.

Here are the 10 biggest card sales sold on Pristine Live! in May 2026.

1. Mickey Mantle 1952 Topps #311 RC (PSA 2)

Final Sale Price: $87,374.43

Our followers knew a 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle rookie card was going to be auctioned off on Pristine LIVE! in May. We pounded the social pavement pretty hard to make sure everyone knew we had our hands on this gem.

What buyers didn’t know — and neither did we Pristine minions — was that Jared planned to unveil two more of these cards during our live auction. And they hit big!

Sold separately, these three Mantle cards — the top one a PSA 2 — went for a combined $181,000. Not a bad average price for the hobby’s most iconic postwar baseball card

2. Shohei Ohtani 2026 Topps 75 Years of Topps Die-Cut Autographs Foilfractor #SO #1/1 (PSA | Auto 10)

Final Sale Price: $33,783.75

To celebrate its 75th anniversary, Topps created a special die-cut autograph set shaped like the number 75. At the top of the checklist sits this Shohei Ohtani Foilfractor, a one-of-one autograph and the only numbered Ohtani auto in the entire die-cut release.

The card's rarity starts with the print run and extends back to the pack itself. The odds of pulling a Die-Cut Autograph Foilfractor are roughly 1 in 906,150 hobby packs.

So, when the lone Ohtani example surfaced on Pristine LIVE!, collectors responded accordingly, pushing the final price to nearly $34,000.

3. Shohei Ohtani 2025 Topps MVP Collection Foilfractor Autograph #1-A #1/14

Final Sale Price: $32,893.09

Buckle up. This is the second of four Ohtani cards on this list and one of three signed Foilfractors. This one commemorates his 50/50 achievement during the 2024 MLB season, which earned him his third MVP award.

The card is numbered 1/14, meaning only 14 copies exist, and this is the first one produced. That's fitting for a card celebrating a season unlike any the sport had seen before.

Ohtani became the first player in Major League Baseball history to hit 50 home runs and steal 50 bases in the same year, adding yet another milestone to a career that seems determined to rewrite the record book.

4. Shohei Ohtani 2022 Topps Luminaries Letter Autograph Booklets #LBCSO1 #1/1

Final Sale Price: $30,805.01

At this point, we may as well just call this a “Top Ohtani Cards” list. This one-of-one booklet card combines several hobby favorites into a single piece: an on-card autograph, game-used memorabilia, and true 1/1 scarcity.

Besides the autograph, the centerpiece is a path containing the letter “N” from an Ohtani jersey, making it a far more distinctive relic than the standard jersey swatches found on a lot of patch cards.

Letter patch cards have become especially popular as they’re easily identifiable from other jersey cuts. There may be multiple jersey relic cards from the same uniform, but only one can contain the “N” from Ohtani’s name. In this case, that letter helped drive this card’s final price past $30K.

5. Babe Ruth 1933 Goudey #181 (PSA 3.5)

Final Sale Price: $29,567.64

With all this Ohtani love, it’s nice to see the true Sultan of Swat get the attention he deserves. After all, he’s the one MLB legend whose talents on the mound and power at the plate most align with the skills of the Dodgers’ two-way superstar.

The Babe’s 1933 Goudey cards occupy a special place in the hobby. This overall set is often credited as the release that helped revive baseball card collecting during the Great Depression, and it’s still one of the most important pre-war issues ever produced.

Ruth appeared on four different cards in the set, but of course any example bearing his likeness continues to attract attention with collectors nearly a century later.

6. Ty Cobb 1909-11 T206 #98 / Portrait Red (SGC 5.5)

Final Sale Price: $27,027.00

Ty Cobb remains one of baseball's most fascinating and controversial figures. And more than a century after he retired from baseball, collectors still chase his cards with the same intensity the player himself brought to the field.

This Red Portrait card comes from the legendary T206 tobacco set, which is widely regarded as one of the most important releases in the history of card collecting. Yes, this set is best known for the ultra-rare Honus Wagner card, but a lot of collectors consider Cobb's portrait cards among its most beautiful designs.

The vivid red background helped this image become one of the defining baseball cards of the pre-war era, making it one of the hobby's most recognizable pieces of artwork.

7. Victor Wembanyama 2025 Panini Contenders EuroLeague Kaboom Vertical Gold #2 #9/10

Final Sale Price: $27,027.00

Timing’s pretty important in the card collecting hobby, and this card popped up in our Pristine Live! auction  at the perfect moment.

At 22 years old, Victor Wembanyama is already one of basketball's biggest stars. And he’s currently playing in his first NBA Finals, the first page of what many expect will be a long postseason résumé. At 7-foot-4 with the ability to handle the ball, shoot from deep, protect the rim, and create offense, he continues to stretch the boundaries of what a player his size can do.

This Victor Wembanyama Gold Kaboom is numbered 9/10, making it one of only 10 copies produced. The Kaboom brand itself has become one of the hobby's most recognizable inserts thanks to its comic book-inspired artwork, explosive colors, and limited availability. For today's basketball collectors, pulling a Kaboom — especially one featuring Wemby — remains one of the biggest thrills in the pack-opening experience.

8. Shohei Ohtani 2022 Bowman Platinum Platinum Patches Autographs Foilfractor #PLPSO #1/1 (PSA Authentic | Autograph Grade 10)

Final Sale Price: $25,469.26

Ok, just one more Ohtani.

This one takes us back to his days with the Angels, when the baseball world was collectively beginning to realize that Ohtani wasn’t some sort of novelty act and that we may have a bona fide GOAT on our hands. By 2022, Ohtani had already won an MVP Award and was proving that his historic 2021 season was no fluke.

This one-of-one Foilfractor combines an autograph with a premium patch relic, resulting in a hard-to-nab card that captures Ohtani near the beginning of his ascent from global star to living baseball legend. Four appearances in May's top 10 suggest plenty of collectors would agree with that assessment.

9. Magic Johnson / Michael Jordan 2011-12 Exquisite Collection UD Black Dual Patch Autographs #LP2MM #10/25

Final Sale Price: $21,015.95

There are great players, and then there are legends. And while Wemby tears up today’s NBA along with preconceived notions of what a big can do, few athletes have shaped the NBA quite like Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan. These influence these two guys have had on the game extends far beyond championships and highlight reels.

Along with honoring this greatness, this dual-autograph card serves as a reminder of a different era in basketball. Long before one-and-done prospects and constant player movement, fans watched rivalries develop over years. Magic and Larry Bird carried theirs from college into the NBA, while Jordan spent much of his career chasing and eventually surpassing the standard established by Magic's Lakers and Bird's Celtics.

Released as part of Upper Deck's premium Exquisite Collection line, this card combines autographs, game-used patches, and two of the most influential names the sport has ever produced, all in a run limited to just 25 copies.

10. Tom Brady 2023 Topps Composite Cosmic Chrome Autographs Superfractor #TB #1/1 (PSA 10 | Autograph Grade 10)

Final Sale Price: $20,426.27

Back before Tom Brady served as a color commentator, dated supermodels, or was relentlessly roasted by comedians, the guy actually played some football. And he was pretty good — even set some records and won a few championships.

This mint Tom Brady one-of-one Superfractor autograph card takes us back to these good ol’ days. It comes from Topps Composite, a product that brought several popular Topps football brands back into circulation despite the company's lack of an NFL license.

The swirling Cosmic Chrome design gives the card a distinctly modern look, but the appeal is timeless: a perfect PSA 10 card featuring the only copy of an autograph from the winningest quarterback in NFL history.
